Biography

Koen De Couck is a Belgian developer, specialized in big data. In 2012 he joined the University of Cambridge Psychometrics Centre, participating as an intern on the myPersonality Facebook project. His professional background includes human-computer interaction, distributed computing, automation and statistics.

Koen graduated with first class honours in 2013 (Ghent University, Belgium). Before that, his work on the early internet was awarded the prestigious Klasse Award (2010). Koen investigated common user interaction with different online knowledge platforms (wiki’s, directories, search engines) and gave talks about his findings at the universities of Leiden (2009), Rotterdam (2010) and University of Cambridge (2012). His masters dissertation, ‘The academic archetype’, described a predictive model adapted for higher educational settings. His findings became part of the early public debate on online information. 

Koen also is an alumni member of the University of Washington school of Engineering, Fulbright (the United States merit-based program for young professionals) and several foundations promoting young responsible entrepreneurship, incl. the international Kairos Society and Code for America. More recently, his professional experience includes private company consulting and founding his own company. 

Koen enjoys social volunteer work, coding, reading and fitness.
