Biography

During her summer internship at Cambridge University Psychometrics Centre, Maria Rafalak worked on developing a new R package designed to automatically generate items for intelligence tests (CAT) in collaboration with Professor Heinz Holling from the University of Münster.

Maria holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Warsaw, where she completed a specialisation path dedicated to applied psychometrics. Her Masters research was based on a  specially designed computer task that examined the relationship between mood, motivation and cardiovascular indices of arousal. 

During her studies Maria actively participated in academic life being a member of the student scientific team of psychometrics. Moreover, she simultaneously reached a B.Sc. Degree in Informatics and Econometrics at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

Maria currently holds a position of test specialist at the Polish Psychological Test Laboratory (the leading psychological test publisher in Poland) where she is involved in such projects as the Polish normalisation of the BIP personality test, the creation of a test to assess leadership styles and also a test to assess management skills in adults. In her work she combines her  programming skills with modern psychometric methods. Maria’s main professional interest are practical applications of Item Response Theory.

In her free time Maria likes to practice Zumba fitness and play board games.
