BPS Certificates in Occupational Test Use (COTU)

The Psychometrics Centre runs 5-day professional training courses leading to the British Psychological Society (BPS) and European Federation of Psychological Association (EFPA) Certificates of Competence in Test Use (COTU).  For most psychometric test publishers, the possession of a COTU is mandatory for those individuals and HR departments who wish to use their tests. As well as the professional certificate, candidates are also provided with a Certificate of Attendance at the University of Cambridge.

These courses, which include both ability testing (formerly BPS Level A) and personality testing (formerly BPS Level B), either take place in Cambridge or, by arrangement, in a venue of your choice anywhere in the world (contact us for details). They meet the professional guidelines of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the International Test Commission (ITC), and are the established qualification for anyone seeking career development in Human Resource management. They are also a much sought-after qualification by those involved in professional psychological consultancy services such as coaching, mentoring or counselling.

  •  Ability (formerly Level A):  The course covers all the underlying principles and practice for the application of ability testing for recruitment and staff development in an organisation. As well as learning the significance of basic testing concepts such as reliability, validity, standardisation and equivalence, candidates practice the fundamentals of testing etiquette, including how to provide a fair testing environment, how to meet the legal requirements, the essentials of report writing and the challenging task of providing feedback to candidates. This is an ideal course for HR and other professionals who wish to apply the benefits of psychometric testing within their organisation or as a consultant.
  • Personality (formerly Level B): The course builds on the basic knowledge taught in Level A. Level B training introduces you to personality testing, a key technology in staff development, organisational change, restructuring and senior appointments. The Level B element focuses on the workbased personality test Orpheus and the integrity test Giotto. The course will enable you to use and interpret Orpheus as well as provide you with transferable knowledge and skills in the areas of work personality and feeding back personal information.
