The ESRC ended its support for our very successful Researcher Development Initiative in Applied Psychometrics in mid 2012. This programme was primarily addressed to university teachers and postgraduate students, although psychometricians in publishing and industry have also been welcome to attend. We have run stand-alone workshops and two-week residential Summer School programmes. The RDI formed the template for our continuing programme of workshops that address the need for more training for researchers in the quantitative methods that underpin psychometrics.
Today, we run two or three day workshops several times each year, targeted at University teaching staff challenged by the transition from classical to modern psychometric methods. These courses are also suitable for applied researchers (including graduate students and post-doctoral research workers) who have a Masters Degree in a topic area with a significant amount of quantitative methodology, and who wish to learn about the potential for estimation of psychometric models in both commercial and free software. Topics are chosen by popular demand.
