About The Psychometrics Centre

Staff and Associates. The Centre draws together psychologists, epidemiologists, statisticians, mathematicians, computer scientists and linguists from the University's Schools of Biological Science, Social Science and Humanities, Clinical Medicine, Arts and Humanities and Engineering as well as the Microsoft Research Laboratory in Cambridge.

Our History. The Psychometrics Centre was founded in 1989 and relocated to the University of Cambridge in 2005. In September 2010 the Research Policy Committee of the University of Cambridge designated The Psychometrics Centre as a Strategic Research Network of the University.

The Centre's Activities focus around four core areas:

Research: Research at the Centre focuses on cutting edge developments in the theory and practice of testing. Psychometrics is a rich academic discipline undergoing huge changes. Multi-media and on-line technologies are changing how tests are developed and delivered and what they measure.Public policy initiatives are extending the use of assessments throughout society.

Training: Psychometrics was once the unique preserve of psychologists but now human resource professionals, managers, teachers, academics and health professionals require a more objective understanding of human performance and measurement issues. The Centre's courses cover subjects ranging from advanced statistical modelling methods, to courses qualifying HR consultants and other professionals to use tests.

Consultancy: We carry out evaluations, validations, translations, statistical analyses and write reports for both small and medium sized enterprises and long-standing corporate partners. We aim to keep organisations that are involved in any form of psychometric testing at the forefront of developments in this dynamic area.

Products: An important objective of the Psychometrics Centre is to prepare the world of psychometrics for the new age. We develop state-of-the-art products that enable and empower psychometricans worldwide to be at the forefront of developments in the field.
