Koen De Couck is a Belgian UX designer, specialized in user behavior modeling. In 2012 he joined University of Cambridge Psychometrics Centre, participating as an intern on the myPersonality Facebook project. His professional background includes human-computer interaction, user design, statistics and psychology.
Koen graduated from Ghent University in 2013 with first class honours in Experimental Psychology. Before that, his early work on online information systems was awarded the prestigious Klasse Award (2010). Koen investigated Flemish user behaviour relating to different online knowledge platforms (wiki’s, directories, search engines) and gave talks about his findings at the universities of Leiden (2009), Rotterdam (2010) and University of Cambridge (2012). His Belgian master dissertation, ‘The researcher personality archetype’, detailed a user behavior model specific to higher educational settings. These findings were widely discussed by professionals in local media. In his free time Koen acted as a private tutor in statistics to undergraduate students, and functioned as webmaster of the psychology student council. In 2012, he founded his own company and designed a pilot project called ‘Sense’, an Android based psychometrics app which intelligently matches users.
In recent years Koen has worked on several user experience design projects at the University of Washington as a scholar of Fulbright, the United States merit-based program for young professionals. He is alumni member of the University of Washington school of Engineering, the British Psychological Society and several foundations promoting young responsible entrepreneurship, incl. the international Kairos Society. As an alumni member of the University of Cambridge Psychometrics Centre, Koen continues be involved with Centre research. He provides Dutch translations to the Concerto platform, and collaborates on several myPersonality related studies.
Koen enjoys fitness, cooking, web/app design and volunteer work.
