Biography

Jan Stochl is a Research Associate in the Department of Psychiatry and formerly a Psychometrician in the Psychometrics Centre at the University of Cambridge. During his time with us, Jan made an important contribution to our short courses and summer schools, in which his expertise in many facets and models of item response theory was invaluable. 

Jan obtained his MSc in the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University, Prague, in 2002, and followed this with postgraduate study in the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, specializing in methodology and statistics. He completed his doctorate entitled 'Structure of motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease' at Charles University in 2006, the project receiving a best project award from the President of the Czech Science Foundation in 2010. Between June and September 2007, Jan was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, and in May and June, 2008, he was a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oslo. He is a member of the Movement Disorder Society and the European Huntington's Disease Network.   

Jan has published widely and taught courses on Anthopomotorics (measurement in kinesiology, also known as Kinanthropology), informantics, statistics and scientific methodology.
